This series of works by Sandy Kennedy illustrate the children’s nursery rhyme “One For Sorrow”, a rhyme that suggests that there is something portentous about magpies. The illustrations are realistic though not photo-realistic. Instead Kennedy gives an impression of the birds. Rather than a detailed and sterile ornithological study the smudgy style gives the feeling of movement as if a still from a film.
