‘Rabbit (In Winter Blessington Lakes)’ - Trevor Geoghan

Medium: Oil on Canvas, laid on board

Dimensions: 123cm x 61cm

Location: Newbridge Library

Born in London, England, in 1946, Trevor Geoghan studied at Worthing College of Art, Sussex, England, and Chelsea College of Art, London, England. He moved to Ireland in 1971, settling in Blessington county Wicklow. He lectured at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin between 1978 and 2004. He has exhibited across Ireland, in the UK and the United States.

This painting by Trevor Geoghan is painted in a photo-realistic manner, also known as mimetic realism: literally mimicking reality. It is painted with great attention to detail not just in the foreground subject, but in the whole composition. Geoghan manages this realism with a limited palette of mainly whites and blues, with only two areas of bold colour, in the foreground with the rabbit’s fur and in the background trees.
