Which one should I use???

RF100B motor tax forms

RF100B

When Taxing a Vehicle you will require one of the following forms:

Computerized Reminder

This form may come to you by post about two weeks before your tax is due for renewal. If you get this form you can use the handy prepaid envelope which accompanies it to post your application to the Tax Office.

Use this form when:
a) there has been no ange in any particulars relating to the vehicle, and b) you are taxing prior to or during the month in which your tax is due.

If you do not receive this form you can tax your vehicle using the RF100A (manual tax renewal form) - see below. If your tax has lapsed for a month or more, you are required to pay arrears and complete the form RF100A.

Motor Tax Manual Renewal Form

If you do not receive the RF100B above or if arrears of tax are payable you should use this form. An Irish version of this application form is available from the Motor Tax Office.

Use this form if:
a) you did not receive a computerized renewal form (RF100B)
b) if your name or address has changed since you last taxed the vehicle.
c) your tax is a month or more overdue.


RF100 motor tax forms

When Taxing a Vehicle you will require one of the following forms:

New Vehicles

This is used for taxing "brand-new" vehicles for the first time only, (in this case the form is only available from the motor dealer), imported vehicles on their first taxation in Ireland (in this case it is available from the Revenue Commissioners).

This form is used to tax brand new vehicles or for first taxing of imported vehicles. It is issued by:

  • your motor dealer in the case of a "brand-new" vehicle
    or,
  • the Revenue Commissioners in the case of an imported vehicle being taxed for the first time in Ireland. The Revenue Commissioners Vehicle Registration Office is now processed by the NCT.

Change of Particulars

This form is used for any change of particulars to do with the vehicle, e.g. taxation class, colour, change of engine, body type, etc.

Use this form if any of the following changes have happened since your last tax renewal

  • Vehicle Tax Class
  • Vehicle engine
  • Vehicle Colour
  • Vehicle Body Type
  • Your name (e.g. on marriage)
  • Your address
  • Unladen weight (goods vehicles only)
  • Seating capacity (large public service vehicles and youth or community buses only)

BUT do not use this form for change of ownership

If the vehicle is already taxed, and you just want to inform us of the changes, do not complete the Motor Tax renewal details.

Change of Ownership

The Responsibility is on the seller to ensure that all paperwork is properly completed and sent to the appropriate office - (see below).

a) Vehicles Registered Before 1st January, 1993.
Complete a Change of Ownership form RF200 (), and submit it to the seller's local tax office, making sure that it is signed by both parties and that the date of sale is clearly indicated. Enclose the log book with the form.

Note: If the Vehicle Registration Book is missing and if there is no contact with the seller, the new owner must submit a Statutory Declaration form to your Local Motor Tax Office, The Declaration includes garage certified details and the sworn date of purchase can be used as the date which the tax it to be charged, No Garda stamp is required.Statutory Declarations must be witnessed by a commissioner for Oaths, Notary Public/ Practising Solicitoror Peace Commissioner, Please contact your Local Motor Tax Office to request this form

b) Vehicles Registered After 1st January, 1993
Complete the appropriate section of the vehicle licensing certificate ensuring the new owner details are completed along with signatures of both parties and the date of sale and send the document to Vehicle Registration Unit, Shannon, Co. Clare, (not the motor tax office). Please contact the Department to request this form The new owner will receive a licensing certificate in his/her name in due course.

Note: If the Vehicle Registration Certificate is missing, and if there is no contact with the seller, the new owner must submit a Statutory Declaration form to the department of Transport, Tourisim and sport. Notification of transfer of vehicle ownership to a motor dealer for vehicle registered after 01/01/1993


Form RF105 must be completed by both the buyer and the seller and forwarded to the Department of Transport Tourisin and sportwhile the Vehicle Registration Certificate is surrendered to the Motor Dealer acquiring the vehicle.

Log Book

1) Log Book

This old-style logbook is only for vehicles registered before 1993.


Vehicle Registration Certificate (V.R.C.)

2) Vehicle Registration Certificate (V.R.C.)

This document gives details of the vehicle and is issued automatically by the Revenue Commissioners within a few days of a vehicle (new or imported) being registered in Ireland.


Vehicle Licencing Certificate (V.L.C.)

3) Vehicle Licensing Certificate (V.L.C.)

This will be sent to you after the vehicle has been taxed for the first time. When taxing the vehicle for the first time in the country you will need the vehicle registration certificate and the RF100, the insurance certificate and any other relevant documents (see the reverse of the RF100 form).
Following this, you will receive a Vehicle Licensing Certificate. You should keep these documents safely, to avoid the cost and inconvenience of having to replace them at a later date.

Insurance Certificate

Your vehicle must be Insured before the vehicle can be taxed. Insurance company, policy number and expiry date of insurance is required.

Help, I've Lost Something

1) Don't Panic

2) Complete form RF134* declaring what documents were lost and have it witnessed at your garda station.

State whether you need a Replacement log book, vehicle licensing certificate or tax disc and enclose the appropriate fee - see below.

The fees for replacements are currently (Dec 2019):

We can only accept applications for replacement documents from the registered owner of the vehicle at the time of application.

What do I need to tax a Hackney/Taxi???

1) Application form, fully completed and signed
2) Log Book or Vehicle Licensing Certificate
3) Original current insurance certificate
4) Current Hackney/Taxi License, issued by the relevant local authority
5) Fee - annual rate - €95.00. Payment may be made by cheque, made payable to Kildare County Council, cash or credit card. Do not sent cash in the post.


Goods Vehicles

Heavy Goods Vehicle

1) Appropriate Application Forms () fully completed & signed.
2) Log Book or Vehicle Licensing Certificate
3) Original current insurance certificate
4) Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW). If you do not have a current CRW you must submit a Pass Statement from an authorized tester with a fee of €13 to obtain a CRW.
5) Printed weight docket for new and first taxing of imported heavy goods vehicles.
6) Correct Fee plus €13 for CRW if applicable. Payment may be made by cheque, made payable to Kildare County Council, cash or credit card. Do not send cash in the post.


Light Goods Vehicle

1) Appropriate Application Forms () fully completed & signed.
2) Log Book or Vehicle Licensing Certificate
3) Original current insurance certificate.
4) Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW). If you do not have a current CRW you must submit a Pass Statement from an authorized tester with a fee of €6 to obtain a CRW. See note with requirements for testing.
5) Goods Declaration Form completed on your first taxing of the vehicle in your name. This form must be witnessed at the Garda Station.
6) Printed weight docket for first taxing of imported light goods vehicles.
7) Correct Fee plus €6 for CRW if applicable may be made by cheque, made payable to Kildare County Council, cash or credit card. Do not send cash in the post.
