Kildare County Archive

Kildare Local Studies, Genealogy & Archives holds material relating to County Kildare and Kildare families and people, as well as the records of local government within the county. The principal archival collections are:

Kildare Grand Jury records, 1857–1899; Presentments, Treasurers’ Query books, County Surveyor Query notebooks, schedules of sums for Public Works, indentures.

Records of Athy, Celbridge and Naas Poor Law Unions, 1839–1922, including minute books, accounts’ ledgers, dispensary committee books, correspondence books, vaccination records, indoor relief books.

Kildare County Council records, 1899–2019, including minutes, committee books, accounts, rate books, managers’ orders, correspondence, registers of planning applications, road vehicle registrations and licenses, late registrations of births and marriages, maps, registers of electors, blueprints.

Graveyard records, including internment registers and purchase of grave spaces in a number of graveyards across County Kildare. 

Rural District Councils, 1898–1967; records of five Rural District Councils of Athy, Baltinglass, Celbridge, Edenderry and Naas which administered Co. Kildare and some parts of the adjacent counties of Wicklow and Offaly; minute books, correspondence, contracts, indentures, agreements, valuation lists, school attendance committee records, Labourers’ Acts statutory receipts, Land Commission orders and conveyances.

Rental Ledgers, Register of External Institution Cases, County Home, County Hospital and Dispensary District records, Old Age Pensions.

Town Commissioners, 1855–2013; Urban District Councils (UDCs) of Athy and Naas, established in 1900, and their predecessors, the Athy and Naas Town Commissioners, established under the Lighting of the Towns Act 1828; minute books, School Attendance Committee minute books, Burial Board ledgers, rate books, artisans’ dwellings rentals, tenant house purchases and housing repairs ledgers.

The Shackleton Papers, 1763–1864, including letters of Mary Leadbeater, née Shackleton, of Ballitore, Co. Kildare, an eighteenth century diarist, author and member of the Society of Friends.

Kildare County Library Service archive, 1927–2019.

Mansfield family and estate papers, 1700–1983.

Wright family, Castledermot, Co. Kildare, 1880–1980.

Miscellaneous material including Teresa Brayton collection, Medlicott Family Papers and other Kildare specific material.
