Consultation for Suicide Prevention Plan

Connecting for Life - Kildare West Wicklow

Connecting for Life Consultation 2016

In 2015 the National Office for Suicide Prevention launched the new national suicide prevention strategy, Connecting for Life. This strategy aims to reduce the rates of self-harm and suicide in Ireland by 10% by 2020.

The national strategy calls for the development of local area action plans to guide suicide prevention efforts at a local level. To facilitate this the HSE along with other local organisations and the community and voluntary sector have come together to form a group called the Kildare West Wicklow Suicide Prevention Planning Group (SPPG). This group was established in May 2016 and has been working to develop this local area plan, Connecting for Life Kildare West Wicklow.

Connecting for Life is based on the idea that suicide is everyone’s business and that it takes a whole community to help reduce it. It is therefore important that the whole community has an opportunity to have a say in the development of the local plan. The SPPG is now conducting a consultation with members of the public and with local organisations to hear their views of suicide prevention.

Your feedback is important to us and will ensure the community has input into shaping the direction of suicide prevention work locally. If you would like to be involved please follow the link below to a survey. It is a relatively short survey and shouldn’t take long to complete. Please share this with any colleagues or organisations who you think may like to participate.

There will be a number of public meeting where people can share their ideas so if you are interested in taking part in these please email:

and put Kildare West Wicklow in the title with your contact details.
