What else can Kildare County Council Arts Service offer to schools?

Kildare County Council Arts Service have been involved in a number of Arts in Education initiatives which are intended to compliment the school curriculum. Programmes include a Music Outreach Programme, Tzipora Children’s Music Festival, Dance Artist in Residence, Theatre in Education, Visual Artist in Residence.

The Arts Service offers the following

  • Information, advice and support for Artist in Schools projects, Per Cent for Art scheme, including assistance with grant applications
  • Development of an Instrument Bank
  • Grant aid. The Arts Act Grant scheme offers grants to groups/ organisations/ schools towards the cost of projects or events that stimulate public interest in and improve arts practice in the county. The annual closing date for the scheme is mid March.

 

Does this work tie into the Library Service?

Yes, Kildare County Council’s Library and Arts Service are integrated. Projects of particular interest are:

  • Enhanced School Library service open to teachers in Melitta Business Park, KildareTown
  • Free library membership for children under 18yrs
  • Block loan membership (by application)
  • Story Sacks reading development initiative
  • Storyteller in Residence, Susie Minto
  • Exhibition space offered free of charge in libraries around the county
  • Individual libraries organise initiatives including Book Detective, Inter Library Quiz, Childrens Book Festival Book Mark competition.

 

What can Riverbank Arts Centre provide for schools?

‘A place to learn, to do, to be’
Riverbank Arts Centre is the county arts centre, located within Kildare County Council’s Cultural Campus in Newbridge. Riverbank has two galleries, a performance space, workshop facililties and a cafe. The centre has an Outeach remit and embraces the education community as part of this programme. Services offered include:

  • Interactive gallery visits, facilitated by artists and arts centre staff.
  • Quality performances created for children, offered each school term
  • Advice on all technical aspects of performance
  • Opportunities to ‘Meet the Artist’
  • Residence programmes in schools
  • Competitions
  • A forum for artistic critical debate and dialogue
  • A service providing Information and advice to connect the art with community and the artistic community
