Christy Moore to play two gigs at the Riverbank Arts
Centre
Tickets go on sale in the Riverbank from Friday 15th
March at 10.00 am, on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited
to four tickets per transaction.
Christy
Moore was born and reared in Newbridge. In May 1966, he took the
boat to England where he remained for five years, working on building
sites and oil rigs, and became a regular on the folk club circuit.
When he returned to Ireland he teamed up with Donal
Lunny, Liam O'Flynn and Andy Irvine and recorded the much loved
album Prosperous in 1971, which included a number of songs now famous
in his repertoire - The Raggle Taggle Gypsy, and James Connolly.
Planxty followed, and then Moving Hearts before Christy
finally went solo. His convictions, along with his reputation, hold
strong and he is still prepared to be angry for just causes. 'This
is the Day' , his most recent album, includes the song Veronica, a
powerful indictment of those responsible for the murder of Veronica
Guerin.
Riverbank is delighted and honoured to be the venue
for Christy's next gig - this is a rare opportunity to see the renowned
folk singer in the intimate atmosphere of Newbridge's purpose built
auditorium.
