Coming to The Riverbank Arts centre Saturday 1 st of May to entertain
us with the cream of Irish traditional music is Frankie Gavin .
Born in Co. Galway, Frankie hails from a very musical family, he has
been playing Irish traditional music since the age of four when he
started on the tin whistle, At the age of seven he made his debut television
appearance on Irish TV but he is largely self taught and has a remarkable
ability for learning music by heart.
In the early 1970's he played sessions in Galway and then moved to
Hughes' Pub in Spiddal where in 1973 De Danann was formed .
De Danann has had many highpoints over a quarter of a century,
and Frankie Gavin's fiddle playing has always been a central feature
of its repertoire.
