A fusion of words and music is scheduled to take
place in the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge on Saturday 14th
June next. Des Egan, the Newbridge based poet is taking to the stage
with Gearóid Ó hAllmuráin, a champion on the
uilleann pipes and the concertina.
Des Egan is an internationally acclaimed poet with
16 collections of poetry which have been translated into a
dozen languages. He has received the acclamation of international
audiences as far afield as the US where he has received several
major awards including the National Poetry Foundation of
USA Award. Critics say of the County Kildare poet, “Egan
will yet succeed to an enduring, honoured and unique place
in world literature.” |

Gearóid Ó hAllmuráin, with
several All-Ireland competitive titles on the concertina and
uilleann pipes to his credit, is a class act from start to
finish! Ó hAllmuráin’s playing keeps traditional
music alive and thriving through the generations. Both his
recent CD, ‘Traditional Music from Clare and Beyond,”
and his book, “A History of Traditional Irish Music,”,
are meeting with rave reviews. He is the Jefferson Smurfit
Corporation Professor of Irish Studies and a Professor
of Music at the University of Missouri, St Louis.

This is not the first time that the two artists have
joined forces to entertain an audience with words and music. In
1999, Des and Gearóid performed together at the Broward
Center for the Performing Arts in South Florida.
