Sketches in Gouache, Exhibition by Yona Shiryan Caffery
Yona Shiryan Caffery was born in Isreal, and is of Yemetite
origin. Much of her work in the past has explored the visual relationship
between human and plant forms. Against her dark atmospheric backgrounds,
figures whose limbs twist and overlap like stems give way at times
to pure abstraction, where the distinction bewteen animal and plant
is no longer perceptible.![Sketches in Gouache by Yona Shiryan Caffery](images/yona.jpg)
Sketches in gouache, represents a new departure, concentrating
on simple objects; jugs, bowls, and goblets in bold vivid colours,
painted with strong vigorous brush strokes. Rich greens, reds and
blues combine to create striking and unique renditions of simple,
household utensils.
Yona studied Art at the Bat-Yam Institute of Modern
Art. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held in the Godolphin
Gallery in 1986 and 1987, as well as in the Kennedy Gallery in 1991,
and the Sladmore Gallery, London in 2000. Yona now lives and works
in County Kildare.
This Exhibition continues until Saturday 21st December.
Gallery opening hours are as follows Monday to Saturday 10.00am to
1.00pm, and 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
