Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival Begins Today

One of the great race days in global horse racing, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby is the highlight of the Irish flat racing season.

The Irish Derby is the third and most important Irish Classic and Group 1 of the Flat season. Run over a distance of one mile and four furlongs at the Curragh, it is open to three-year-old colts and fillies. Many horses which have previously contested the 2,000 Guineas in Ireland, England and France and the English and French Derbies traditionally come to the Curragh for the Irish Derby.

This years Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Group 1 Race is at 3.45pm on Saturday 26th June at the Curragh Racecourse. The 2020 Winner of The Irish Derby was Santiago, trained by A.P. O'Brien, and ridden by Jockey S. Heffernan

The Curragh Racecourse is to recognise all frontline staff with the homeless also to benefit from this weekend’s festival of Racing The Curragh Racecourse will be donating €10 from every €25 admission ticket to the Peter McVerry Trust who run seven shelters for the homeless in Co Kildare and Fr Peter McVerry himself will be present to receive the proceeds on the day. 50 Members of the Defence Forces frontline staff will also be special guests of the historic venue and a specially arranged Air Corps flyby will take place before the Dubai Duty Free Derby as a salute to all frontline workers to recognise their great service.

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby can be viewed on RTE television with racing also taking on Friday 25th and Sunday 27th June as part of the weekend’s Derby Festival of Racing.
