KILMEAD COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Kilmead Community Council was formed in 1995. It formally incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, with charitable status in 1997. The group is made up of representatives from various local community initiatives in the area including the Moat Preservation Society, Tidy Towns, The Community Employment Scheme and other local groups.

Its objectives are to 'establish, promote and operate a community development programme which will act as a focus and catalyst for community development for the community at Kilmead with a view to promoting their social, economic and cultural welfare and particularly to empower specific disadvantaged groups to effectively participate in a programme of personal and social development.'
Kilmead Community Council are a very proactive and successful group. They have already helped to enhance the Moat of Ardscull by providing a picnic area which is very popular with the tourists. They have also submitted a proposal to the Heritage Council for the development of a Wildflower Garden and Meadow at Ardscull.
