Alzheimer's Cafe to be launched in Leixlip

Launch on Wednesday April 13th at 7pm

The Alzheimer Cafe Leixlip launches on Wednesday April 13th at 7pm in "The Conservatory", Ryevale Nursing Home, Leixlip. It will provide an informal “cafe” atmosphere for people with dementia, and their partners, families and friends to connect with each other and to interact with health and social care professionals and other experienced volunteers, in a supportive and safe environment.  Attendance is free of charge and there is plenty of parking available. Alzheimer Cafe Leixlip will then run on the second Wednesday of every month from 7-9pm.

Some 48,000 people are currently living with dementia in Ireland with 50,000 carers. For those living in north Kildare and west Dublin, there are few ways for people living with dementia to meet in a social capacity. Following the success of similar Alzheimer Cafes in Dublin and in Naas, Co. Kildare, The Alzheimer Cafe Leixlip will provide an informal “cafe” atmosphere for people with dementia, and their partners, families and friends to connect and socialise with each other while gaining information, interacting with health and social care professionals and other experienced volunteers, in a supportive and safe environment.  Alzheimer Cafe Leixlip will provide refreshments and some light entertainment. There will be expert-led discussions which will give people living with dementia and those affected by dementia, a chance to meet others with similar experiences.

The Alzheimer Cafe Leixlip will be launched on Wednesday 13thApril at 7pm and it will then run on the second Wednesday of every month from 7-9pm. It is being hosted in “The Conservatory”, Ryevale Nursing Home, Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Attendance is free of charge and there is plenty of parking available.
