Co-ordinator, Nicky Martin, is enthusiastic about the service.
"The scheme which was developed by Action South Kildare emanates
from the Rural Transport Initiative of the Department of Transport,"
he says, "and is administered by Area Development Management
Ltd. A budget of €228,553 is going into launching the scheme
and our objective is to support people living in rural areas. This
initiative is going to make it easier for people to get to towns
where employment is available and to do the basic things that they
should be able to do like travelling safely, accessing health and
social services, visiting friends and getting the weekly shopping
done without having to worry about how they reach their local towns.
This is an initiative that brings people together and removes much
of the isolation that is still an enormous part of rural life."
In setting up the initiative, local community needs and facilities
were carefully considered and the chosen routes reflect a determination
to provide a regular and reasonably
priced transport system that serves the particular needs of the
South Kildare community.
