Tours of Leixlip Castle in association with Historic Houses of Ireland
Open Days at Leixlip Castle, Leixlip, Co. Kildare Leixlip Castle was built c. 1172 by Adam de Hereford, a Norman knight who accompanied Strongbow to Ireland. Renovated in the mid-eighteenth century and again in 1837, it incorporates all the different building layers in a remarkably complete 'Georgian Gothick' fusion with a regular four bay front above the river. Leixlip Castle has been home to the Guinness family since 1958.

Talk "Jonathan Swift and Celbridge"
A fascinating talk on Swift’s connections to Celbridge and Kildare. Covering Swift’s affair with Vanessa, his snide swipes at Conolly of Castletown in the Drapiers letters along with Swift’s connections to other big houses. The speaker is Alice Coughlan who trained as a literary reader for The Abbey Theatre. For all interested in the Swift Story, this is one you won't want to miss.
