To mark the centenary of the end of the Great War, a memorial will be unveiled in remembrance of those from Co. Kildare who died and as a reminder of the futility of war. The youngest was 15 years of age, the oldest 49 years of age; the first killed in the early weeks of the war in September 1914 and the last on 10 November, just the day before the war ended at 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918. We remember them all/ – Suaimhneas agus siocháin dóibh – May they rest in peace
Likewise we remember the families and loved ones who were left behind to rebuild their lives and in time to build a new nation. We invite all of the people of Kildare to mark the occasion of the End of the Great War one hundred years to the day and the hour. A Civic Memorial will be unveiled by the Mayor of Co. Kildare, Cllr. Seán Power, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Sunday, 11 November 2018 at 11.00 a.m. (Be advised: event begins at 10 a.m.). A Civic Reception follows at 12 noon in the Osprey Hotel.
