Pollardstown Fen
Newbridge
In autumn each year large numbers of migrating swallows gather to roost in the rushes in Pollardstown Fen.
These birds are getting ready to make the long journey to Africa for the winter.
Each autumn the Irish Midlands Ringing Group catch 500 - 600 swallows and fit the birds with a uniquely numbered metal ring to help trace their journey.
You will get an opportunity to see the process live from 8pm - 10pm.
All ringers are trained and licensed to catch and handle birds and have a permit from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Venue: Pollardstown Fen
