Larry is well-known to all our members and he is a frequent and most welcome visitor to many of our events.

A ‘northerner’ and long time resident of Naas, Larry is the editor and P.R.O. of the national Federation of Local History Societies.

Larry has recently helped to produce volume 16, 2011 of the Local History Review- a publication well-worth obtaining because of its many interesting articles. For instance, our own Brendan Cullen has a descriptive account of the Moone High Cross in the review and his interpretation of the artistic features of the cross provides a new understanding of this ancient piece of ecclesiastical heritage.

For our forthcoming talk, Larry turns his attention to the life of Dan Donnelly - a remarkable Irishman of the bare knuckle era. His talk will illuminate many forgotten aspects of the illustrious career of this world renowned fighter. Unfortunately Dan’s action packed life was cut short when he died suddenly at the young age of thirty-two. This is a talk which certainly should not be missed by anyone interested in Kildare’s heritage and particularly in its illustrious personalities.

The talk, which is open to all, will be held in the GAA Centre, Prosperous Road, Clane, on Wednesday 21 March next at 8:00pm. Be sure to come along and enjoy another great evening of local heritage – all are very welcome.
