Susan McKay

Susan McKay is a writer and journalist from Derry.  Her work appears in The New Yorker, The New York Times, the London Review of Books, The Guardian, The Observer and The Irish Times.  Her latest book, Northern Protestants - On Shifting Ground, was described by Claire Mitchell in The Irish Times as “full of deep emotional intelligence” and “vital reading in all senses.”

As a lifelong feminist Susan has campaigned for the rights of women who have been marginalised.  She was a founder of the Belfast Rape Crisis Centre in the 1980s and as CEO of the National Women’s Council from 2009 to 2012 she worked closely with Traveller women and their organisations. She is currently writing a book about borders for which she received a major individual award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
