1916 Dance in Education Project 'Dancing the Children of the Rising'
With the support of Kildare County Council, the sixth class students of Gaelscoil Nas na Riogh have created an original contemporary dance performance based on the book Children of the Rising (Joe Duffy).
The students have been working with dance artist Cathy O’Kennedy to create their interpretation of the story of The Rising, bringing their unique personal perspective to the stories of the children who died during Easter 1916. Forty three children are involved in the project, each of them representing the young lives lost in April 1916.
Two performances of the finished dance work were given for the first time on March 15, Proclamation Day, for the school community and parents.
Further performances will be given in Dublin City at Dance House on Foley Street in April.
