HOST
TOWNS
What is a Host Town?
The 2003 Special Olympics Host Town Programme gives communities
around the island of Ireland the opportunity to offer International
guests a taste of traditional Irish hospitality and also give our
visiting delegations the chance to meet Irish people. Everyone from
civic leaders to local community groups will have the opportunity
to get involved. There are 177 Host Towns on the programme hosting
166 international delegations.
Kildare is host to 7 different nations and also 3 towns in Kildare
will be host to the Irish Team.
See the full list of towns and visiting
teams here.
Each Host town has established a Host Town Committee which will
interact with the Special Olympics Organising Committee. This Committee
will accommodate each visiting delegation, provide training facilities
for the athletes, provide transport for each delegation and provide
entertainment for the athletes and their families while resident
in a particular community.

Olympics 2003 web site. Similarly, for more information
