Kildare Heritage & Genealogy Company
The
Kildare Heritage Project was established in late 1987 for the purpose
of indexing the church records of Co. Kildare in order to allow easy
access to genealogical information for people wishing to trace their
family history. The project was commissioned and is jointly funded
by Kildare County Library, and FÁS, the national training and
employment authority, and it is sponsored by the Kildare Heritage
and Genealogy Society Ltd.
The
prime objective of the project is to transcribe and computerise all the
genealogical sources for Co. Kildare.
Other work is undertaken
by the project in conjunction with the genealogical database, including
the transcription and production of bound volumes of the correspondence,
diaries and notebooks of the Quaker families of Shackleton, Leadbeater
and Barrington of Ballitore. This not only facilitates researchers but
preserves the original documents which have been deposited with Kildare
County Library.
The project has also
mounted a number of exhibitions on such subjects as the forgotten heritage
of County Kildare and the Great Famine in Co. Kildare.
