Kildare Town: Snapshots in time

Cill Dara Historical Society is pleased to announce the launch of its new publication, Kildare Town: Snapshots in time, compiled by Mario Corrigan and Joseph Connelly. It will be launched in Kildare Town Community Library, in the Eurospar Centre on Claregate Street, on Thursday, 12 December, at 7 p.m.

Featuring over fifty articles from its Heritage Series published in the Kildare Nationalist in 2010, it truly is a book of two halves, the second half dedicated completely to photographs of people and events of the last one hundred years. There is something in here for everybody, whether they be a history enthusiast, student or simply interested in the life and times of Kildare Town. People make places and the book captures the history of the town though the eyes, words and images of local residents. Arranged so you can dip in and out of any part of it at your leisure it is a book that people will return to again and again. A comprehensive index facilitates access to the text while many will return to particular photographs to refresh a memory or remember characters and events of times gone by.

It is of course intended that it will make a marvellous stocking filler for Christmas but is engineered in such a way that it is timeless; a worthy addition to the other titles produced by the Society since 2006. Kildare Town: Snapshots in time is the second in a series of four books, following on from the first volume, Druim Criaig: a Ridge of Clay which was produced in 2009. Once again it pays tribute to all those who helped in the identification of people in photographs or indeed provided photographs for the use of the Society, as well as those who wrote articles or helped in any way.  A big thank you is due to all, particularly the members of Cill Dara Historical Society and the board and staff of Áras Bhríde who facilitate our regular monthly meetings.

The Society is growing from strength to strength and this is once more evidenced in a superb publication. Read it from cover to cover or dip into it when the mood comes over you, buy it for yourselves and your family or for someone special for Christmas. We are pleased to think it will become a worthy addition to our previous publications and will provide endless hours of pleasure, settle age old mysteries or help students in their research for many years to come.

Kildare Town: Snapshots in time, will be launched in, Kildare Town Community Library, Thursday, 12 December, 7 p.m., after which the book will be on sale locally.
