Cover needed for dry dock

ATHY, 15 April 2002: by Bill Trapman. A second attempt to persuade Waterways Ireland to provide a cover for the dry dock in Athy has been made by Kildare South TD Alan Dukes of Fine Gael.

He says he covering of the dry dock would allow both a greater range of activities to be carried out in Athy and would allow all-weather operation at the dock.

Deputy Dukes said that he first approached Waterways Ireland about the possibility of a cover being provided for the dry dock some two years ago, when Waterways Ireland was carrying out restoration works at the dock. He has again been in touch with the Chief Executive of Waterways Ireland urging that a cover be provided.
