Demand for extra postal services

CELBRIDGE, 5 April 2002: by Bill Trapman. Deputy Emmet Stagg has called on the Fianna Fail Minister for Public Enterprise and An Post to provide additional postal services for the town of Celbridge.

He pointed out that the existing Post Office is no longer capable of dealing with a population of 16,000 persons and that the staff there was 'grossly overworked'.

Despite their best efforts, he said, that facility could no longer provide the level of service required to the citizens of the town. It was a regular event now, he added, to see queues of customers out into the street and in all kinds of weather.

“I am calling on the Minister and An Post to open another branch Post Office in the Maynooth Road area of the town either at the shopping centre or at the Aghards local shops.

“This would not only be convenient for the citizens in that area but would also relieve the volume of traffic on Main Street."

An Post, he said, should also examine the provision of further mail collection points in the town and I would suggest the entrance to Crodaun Forest Park as one such location.
