Naas TC may not make Millennium move

NAAS, 3 April 2002: by Brian Byrne. An expectation that Naas Town Council will move temporarily to Millennium Park (above) along with Kildare County Council now looks increasingly unlikely after town clerk Declan Kirrane told councillors that the cost would be ‘sizeable’ over the projected period.

Although he won’t have the full costings until the April meeting of the council, Mr Kirrane noted that rent would have to be paid on a full floor of the Millennium buildings - which have been bought by KCC for almost 22 million euros - for at least three or four years.

“In addition, we would have to make a contribution towards car parking, management security, canteen facilities,” he said. “Extra funds would be needed for fit-out costs of office and IT equipment, as all that’s on offer are bare walls. We would be leaving all that behind us when we moved to Devoy, and have nothing to show for it.”

He pointed out that the existing Town Hall urgently needs more than 190,000 euros spent on refurbishments, including electrical work and
