- National Stores Reception
Centre
The unit was formed in December 2001 to operate the stores
reception for the stores returning from Lebanon on the
termination of that mission. The unit was initially called RSOM
(Reception, Staging and Onward Movement Platoon).
The main function of the unit is to collect stores and equipment
either leaving the country or entering the country from
overseas. This entails operating at sea and air ports and
collecting/delivering to these locations.
A close liaison is made between NSRC and the VAT and Customs
Clearance section of the Directorate of Ordnance and the office
of the Officer in Command of Logistics Administration in Defence
Force Headquarters. Logistics Administration control the
movement of stores inwards and outwards and the control of
customs clearance documents and VAT returns.
Personnel of the Unit are trained in the use of DROPS trucks,
articulated vehicles and load handling equipment.
Unit personnel are also trained in the carriage of dangerous
goods. Members of the NSRC travel overseas to assist in
the repatriation of equipment to Ireland.
The unit will have at its disposal a purpose built container
park with a storage capacity for three hundred 20' containers
which are used for overseas battalions.
