Leixlip in Bloom

LEIXLIP, 24 April 2002: by Bill Trapman. Leixlip will be a town full of colour this summer thanks to the Town Council’s plans to have 'Leixlip in Bloom'.

Specially made hanging baskets have been ordered from a locally based firm, Haven Engineering, and they are currently being planted up by Leixlip Garden Centre.  They will soon be erected on all lamp-posts in the town centre.

In addition, the Town Improvements Committee are replanting all the window boxes from last year – over 100 of them – and erecting them, free of charge, on most premises on Main St.  And thanks to a new watering machine paid for by Intel and made locally by Kema Ltd, maintaining the window boxes and hanging baskets will be much easier this year.

The committee also hopes to work with the Tidy Town Association and water all the shrubberies and baskets in the town centre area.

The Town Council’s FÁS Project will help out with this venture and the watering will be done either early in the morning or in the evenings so as to avoid traffic delays.

The Town Council are hopeful that success with 'Leixlip in Bloom' will lead on to selection at a future date for entry to the Entente Florale competition.  To that end, the Council will be convening a meeting of all interested parties to prepare a plan of action.

"If you are interested in a little bit of hard, but rewarding community work, watch this space," says the Town Improvement Committee's convenor, Cllr Paul Kelly."
